Year nine students from eight schools across the borough were asked to think
about big businesses and how they can benefit local causes when they took part
in Bexley's annual Enterprising Inter-Schools Challenge last month.
The challenge was to come up with a business that could 'Make it pay in a
globalocal way'. Globalocal is thinking on a global scale and acting on a local
level.
The teams of five had to make sure that their company would identify a local
need and demonstrate how it could have far-reaching global impact and make money.
During the day long challenge teams had to form a fictional company, identify
their competitors and work out how they would make money. They then had to come
up with a five minute pitch that they had to deliver to the judges in 'X Factor'
style.
Blackfen School for Girls team won the day with their project 'Game Cycle'.
The aim of their fictional company was to recycle and sell computer games and
consoles and donate the profits to local charities.
Rachel Davidson from business and enterprise education charity, Young Enterprise,
David Gleed, Interim Principal at Bexley College and Mark Stokes from Office
Depot judged the competition. Office Depot also sponsored the competition.
The winning team collected the Bexley Enterprising Inter-Schools Challenge
shield and each member of the team got a DVD player and a holdall filled with
stationery from Office Depot.
The event was organised by Bexley Education Business Partnership and hosted
by Bexley College.
