A* For Bexley’s Students
Provisional figures show that the London Borough of Bexley can once again boast above average GCSE grades with great improvements made at many of the borough’s schools.
All of the schools were keen to achieve a rise in the all important five A* - C grades including English and maths category and their results did not disappoint.
Some highlights were -
St Catherine’s Roman Catholic School for Girls saw a rise in grades from 74% to 86% in their five A* - C results and from 72% to 74% including English and Maths.
St Columba’s Roman Catholic School for Boys received the best ever marks - with 74% of pupils making the grade and 54% achieving A* - C GCSEs including English and Maths.
St Mary’s and St Joseph’s saw students taking their GCSEs for the last time this year and were delighted to see a rise in results from 41% to 58% A* - Cs including English and Maths.
Cleeve Park continued to see a significant rise in its grades and at Welling School and Bexleyheath School the figure for those students achieving five A*-C grades including Maths and English increased to 30%.
For the first time over 99% of GCSE students at all of the Borough’s selective schools achieved the five A*-C grades including Maths and English.
Early Bexley figures show that that 52% of students achieved five A*-C grades including Maths and English above last years Borough figure of 49.7% and well above last year's national average of 46.8%
“Once again our students have made Bexley proud,” says Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Schools, Adult Education and Youth Services, Cllr Simon Windle. “This success is a reflection of the improvements we are continuing to make in education in the borough working in partnership with our schools, teachers, parents and young people. But above all it is evidence of years of hard work by our students. I congratulate them all on their great success!”
