Summer Slam Success In Bexley

Summer Slam comes to Russell Park Open Space, Bexleyheath

Summer Slam comes to Russell Park Open Space, Bexleyheath

More than 1,000 children and young people enjoyed free fun as part of this year's Summer Slam during July and August.

Activities included football, face painting, arts and crafts, bouncy castles, dance workshops, story telling, short tennis and bowling. Young talent from Welling Youth Centre’s Planet Earth project, provided entertainment at all venues. There was also the chance to find out more about Bexley's Summer University programme.

For the adults there was the opportunity to meet their local Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Teams and staff from Neighbourhood Services to discuss any worries about crime or disorder in their areas.

"I am delighted that we had such a strong turnout at the Summer Slam events," says Cabinet Member for Community Affairs, Cllr Katie Perrior. "The Summer Slam is all about getting young people out of the house and involved in real community events. It's a chance to meet new people, find out more about what's on offer for them in the borough and of course - have fun!"

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr June Slaughter says; “Our summer holiday activities programme this year has been one of the busiest ever. I have been so impressed by the sheer range of courses, classes and activities for all age groups. The Summer Slam is a great example of what we had to offer our children and young people during the holidays and it is fantastic to see just how well attended it was.“

The Summer Slam takes place at venues across the borough and is organised by London Borough of Bexley as part of the Community Safety Partnership.

Other local organisations and community groups involved in the Summer Slam were Charlton Athletic Football Club Community Scheme Solutions, Gallions, London & Quadrant and Orbit South Housing Associations. Sainsbury’s, Co-op and Coca Cola provided refreshments for the events.
