Bexley Help Find Funds For Youth Project
The London Borough of Bexley has kept its promise to help to find funds for
a Thamesmead youth project.
Capita Business Services and The Jack Petchey Foundation have both offered
funding to the Thamesmead Youth Awareness Project (TYAP), which the Council
also commissions to run youth inclusion activities.
"This is excellent news," says Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member
for Schools, Adult Education and Youth Services, Cllr
Simon Windle. "The
project is well respected in the borough and I am delighted that the support
from both Capita and The Jack Petchey Foundation means the project can look
to the future."
The TYAP Support Service aims to support groups of young people, helping them
to improve their overall life chances.
TYAP is commissioned by the London Borough of Bexley to run six youth inclusion
projects providing positive activities for children and young people aged 8
to 25 years who are at risk of becoming involved in crime or becoming the victims
of crime. Projects provide activities include art and craft, music production
and performance, sports, games and days out.
The TYAP project applied for funding for two projects earlier this year from
the Connexions/Positive Activities for Young People funds administered by the
Council.
Thirty six bids were received in total by the panel responsible for allocating
the funds, and eleven projects were selected, including the one year arts project
submitted by the TYAP. Unfortunately, it was not possible to fund all of the
proposals received and the second TYAP application was unsuccessful.
Following the panel's decision Members and officers offered their full support
in finding an alternative source of funding so that the project could continue
to offer the same service.
