Grab a Ride With The Taxi That's Going Places
Young People of all abilities aged between 14 and 19 are now being recruited
by the award-winning Pointless Taxi Productions.
The London Borough of Bexley’s filmmaking club for young people is entering
its fifth year and is now under new management, with St Catherine's School
for Girls taking over the lead role reflecting the school’s specialist
media and arts status. The club is being run by the school in partnership with
the London Borough of Bexley and the Metropolitan Police as part of the extended
services in and around schools programme.
The club has roles for young people of all abilities and has made films that
are being used both nationally and locally by a wide range of organisations.
It was instrumental in setting up Bexley’s first Film Festival, and won
the best Community Film Award at the event.
Former club members have secured places at colleges, including the University
of Bournemouth, Ravensbourne College, London College of Communication and the
University of Kent, using the films they made to support their applications.
Members of Pointless Taxi make all the creative and many of the other decisions
involved in the running of the club, including interviewing and appointing
new staff members when necessary.
Syd Heather, who is now an experienced camera operator with the club, said: “If
you are interested in making films to a high quality then this is the club
for you. Filmmaking is about teamwork and we need people to write, produce
and direct, as well as those who are more technically minded. I have learnt
so much by being a member of Pointless Taxi, but the best bit is that it is
fun!”
The club runs on Wednesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm at St Catherine's School
starting on 24 September. The majority of filming will take place in the February
half-term break.
