Credit Where It's Due

Bexley pensioners have only until 5 October to apply for backdated pension credit payments.

While 2.7 million pensioners across the country are receiving the Pension Credit, it ís estimated that nearly 1.8 million may be missing out on their entitlements.

London Borough of Bexley has teamed up with the Department for Works and Pensions in a campaign to encourage pensioners to claim any cash that is due to them.

Many older people mistakenly think that if they own their own home or have savings they're not entitled to Pension Credit. However, nearly half those currently receiving Pension Credit own their own home and about three quarters have some savings.

Bexley pensioners are being advised that, if they miss the 5 October deadline to claim payments, their claims will only be backdated for three months.

Pension Credit guarantees single pensioners an income of £124.05 a week and couples an income of £189.35.

To claim or to get more information, please call the Pension Service on its national free phone numbers 0800 991234 or 0800 169 0133 (text phone).
