Bexley’s New Local Area Agreement
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) are a Government initiative aimed at reducing Central Government bureaucracy and simplifying financial arrangements.
They represent three-year agreements between the Government, the Council and partner organisations to improve local services, and include a series of ambitious performance targets which the Council, with its partners, must achieve.
London Borough of Bexley signed its first LAA in April 2007 and this delivered a number of achievements in 2007/08. The new LAA (2008-2011) was signed-off by the Partnership for Bexley on 5th June 2008 and received formal ministerial sign-off on 30th June.
With the vision set out in the Borough’s Sustainable Community Strategy - BexleyTogether as a basis, the new LAA sets out a range of performance targets against the following themes –
- Building Safer and Stronger Communities
- Developing healthier communities for adults – including vulnerable adults and older people
- Developing services for children and young people
- Promoting economic development and the environment
The final LAA can be accessed below.

Monitoring
The targets within the Local Area Agreement are monitored closely by the Council. In addition, the Government Office for London will review Bexley’s progress against LAA targets at 6 monthly intervals.
A copy of every performance monitoring report from the old LAA and the new LAA can be accessed here.
