New ways to pay the London Borough of Bexley
Paying a bill to the London Borough of Bexley is now easier than ever thanks
to our automated TouchTone telephone line and our online web payments facility.
Both services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and accept debit cards and (for some types of payment) credit cards.
So please give them a try next time you have something to pay to the London
Borough of Bexley.
What can I pay?
All these types of bill can be paid by either of the methods above:
- Council Tax*
- Parking penalty charge notices
- NNDR (Business Rates)*
- Mortgages*
- Commercial Rents*
- Housing Benefit Overpayments
- Other London Borough of Bexley invoices
(Items marked with * can be paid by debit card only.)
Additional items which can be paid online include Planning Applications.
How much do I owe?
You can check your outstanding account balance online
at www.bexley.gov.uk/payments or
using the TouchTone payment line on 020
8294 6789, for Council Tax, NNDR, parking
charges, housing benefit overpayments and invoices.
How do I pay?
TouchTone
- Call 020 8294 6789 and choose the type of account you wish to pay from the options, using the numbers on your TouchTone telephone keypad.
- Enter your account number, invoice number or parking penalty charge number.
- If your number involves letters, e.g. XL1234567A, you should press the star key (*) on your telephone to replace each letter, i.e. * * 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 *
- You may need to use the hash key (#) to finish your number - please listen to the instructions given.
- You will then be guided through the simple process of hearing your balance (if available) and choosing whether to pay it in full, or to pay off a smaller amount of your choice.
- If entering an amount to pay, you should enter it as pounds, star, pence, e.g. £12.34 is entered as 1 2 * 3 4
- Finally, you can enter your credit/debit card number and other details, as prompted, and your payment will be taken.
- The system may prompt you to enter your card security
code. This is normally
the last three digits from the signature strip on the back of your card. Asking
for this information helps prevent card fraud. If you do not enter these numbers,
we may not be able to take your payment.
- The system will give you an authorisation code to note down after a successful payment. This is your receipt and should be quoted in any correspondence with the Council relating to your payment (along with your account/invoice/penalty charge number).
Internet Payments
- Go to www.bexley.gov.uk/payments in your web browser, and choose the type of account you wish to pay from the list shown.
- Enter the simple details required, including your account number, invoice number or parking penalty charge number, and the amount you wish to pay, then click the button to proceed to the secure card detail entry page.
- Please ensure that the amount you enter is in the correct format, pounds.pence, where pence has two digits, e.g. 35.00, not 35.0.
- If you would like a receipt e-mailed to you, please take care to enter your e-mail address correctly. (If you don't have an e-mail address, you can leave this blank.)
- Type in your credit or debit card details, as requested by the web page, and click the button at the bottom of the page to proceed.
- Next, check over the details and click the last button to
confirm you are happy to make the payment.
- The site now supports Verified By Visa/MasterCard
SecureCode. These are like
an online version of Chip and Pin, and mean your online payments are more secure.
If your card issuer/bank supports these technologies, at this stage in the
process you may be taken to a page on their web site and asked to enter your
Verified By Visa/MasterCard SecureCode password, or to set one up if you have
not yet done so. If you have any queries about this part of the process, please
contact your credit or debit card company.
- Finally, you should be presented with a page telling you that your payment
has been approved and giving an authorisation code. Make a
note of this code as it is your receipt and should be quoted in any correspondence
with the council relating to your payment (along with your account/invoice/penalty
charge number). This code will also be e-mailed to you, if you gave an e-mail
address.
How quickly will my account be updated?
Any payment made by either of these methods should be reflected in your account balance (that you can hear by calling the TouchTone system) within two working days.
