Regeneration and Growth

Bexley is well placed to benefit from a number of new developments planned for London, Kent and the wider south east.

The Belvedere Cob

Developments including Crossrail at Abbey Wood, extra river crossings, the Paramount Leisure development, a new 'garden city' at Ebbsfleet and the potential construction of new homes will all have an impact on the borough. The Council believes this growth needs to be managed carefully to benefit local people. The Council is:

  • Strengthening Bexley's reputation as a desirable location to live and run a business
  • Championing the interests of Bexley at the regional and national level so that residents and businesses can benefit from the investment being planned on Bexley's doorstep
  • Pressing for more investment in local transport infrastructure, particularly the extension of Crossrail to Belvedere, Erith, Slade Green and beyond to Ebbsfleet International
  • Identifying suitable sites for new homes, such as the sites of former Council offices
  • Supporting young people and adults into work through skills development programmes and apprenticeships
  • Helping business start-ups and business growth with practical support and advice
  • Using our procurement power to encourage small and medium-sized local businesses
  • Ensuring our young people get the best education we can offer them, through working with local schools to build on our already strong position in the league tables, encouraging high aspirations and future entrepreneurship
  • Encouraging our residents, our schools, colleges and businesses to play their part, by learning new skills, taking new jobs, encouraging our young people to aim high, and being willing to seek out and make the most of the new business opportunities growth will bring
  • Discouraging development that is not in the borough's long-term interests
