Overview and Scrutiny

Overview and Scrutiny Committees investigate local issues and make recommendations to the Cabinet to improve services to residents in the Borough.

In addition to overseeing Council services, they are responsible for challenging the performance of the Council's partners including local health service issues and crime and disorder.

Structure in Bexley

Bexley's committee structure includes four committees aligned to Council directorates. Each of the four committees comprises 11 Councillors and some committees may have additional or co-opted members from external organisations.

Adult Social Care and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The remit includes adult social care, safeguarding, mental health, public health, and the statutory health scrutiny function.

Children’s Services and Education Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The remit includes safeguarding, fostering & adoption, family wellbeing, SEND and education, Post 16 learning and skills, support and engagement with looked after children, young carers, early years provision, and youth offending.

Finance and Corporate Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The remit includes customer services. Corporate financial management and strategy, council tax collection & business rates, procurement, acquisition and disposal of property & assets, emergency planning, corporate strategy and policy, equalities and diversity and corporate communications.

Places Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The remit includes parking policy and enforcement, waste and recycling, street cleansing, highways and traffic infrastructure, flood risk management, leisure and heritage and events, parks and open spaces, libraries, community and voluntary sector engagement, community safety, housing services, economic development and employment, strategic planning and regeneration, trading standards, and licensing strategy.
