Community Safety Partnership
Working together for a safer Bexley
Community Safety Action Zones
The
Community Safety Action Zone initiative began in Slade Green (North End ward)
in 2002 after the Crime and Disorder Audit identified this area as being in
need of a radical approach to crime and disorder issues.
What is the purpose of CSAZ?
The idea behind a CSAZ area is to allow for:-
- improved information sharing between the partner agencies and
- the co-ordination of the activities of the different partner agencies
within the zones.
Some of the resources which agencies may be able to deploy to a particular
zone might include:-
- sharing crime data and information on particular individuals
- increased forensic activity
- introduction of education programmes in schools
- early intervention work with parents
- installation of CCTV
- designing out crime
- removal of graffiti
- health promotion
- outreach youth work in the form of dedicated work with the young people
involved in disorder and their families
- diversionary activities
- target hardening by crime prevention measures
This list is by no means exhaustive and, of course, any projects need
to be targeted and tailored to the needs of each particular zonal area.
However, the key to CSAZ area successes is that residents of the identified
areas are involved at all stages, from identifying the problems facing
their communities to agreeing priorities and helping to develop and deliver
solutions. Sometimes this community participation may well be an end in
itself.
The Bexley Community Safety Partnership was awarded Beacon Status in 2004-2005
for the CSAZ model of crime and disorder work. |
