Children's & Young People's Services
Introduction
Childcare and play services in Bexley are supported and developed through
the Extended Services In and Around Schools department.
This section of the website includes information for those looking for childcare, and covers both Registered and Unregistered types of childcare. It often refers to the Family Information Service, who provide a central point of contact for information on all aspects of childcare.
If you need advice on balancing work/study and family life, the Family Services section includes lots of helpful information and guidelines. If you are thinking about a career in childcare, or thinking of providing childcare services, the Careers in Child Care section may be of interest.
The Directory of Services for Children and Families also provides comprehensive information, advice and guidance on the full range of services available for children, young people and families in Bexley, including non-council service providers.
Extended Services In and Around Schools
Extended services provide access to a range of provision and activities,
often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of children, parents and
the wider community. The government has set out its vision for all schools
to provide a range of extended services by 2010. The core offer has been developed
to ensure that all children and parents/carers have access to a minimum of
services and activities. The Bexley Extended Services Team is working with
schools in order to develop these range of services.
The Core Offer
- Primary schools provide access to high-quality childcare,
8am-6pm, five days a week, 48 weeks a year, in accordance with their communities'
needs
You could make a difference!
Please help London Borough of Bexley to review childcare and
out of school services for children and young people looking in particular
at affordability, quality and accessibility by completing this short questionnaire.
Your views are extremely important to us and will assist greatly in improving
services for you and your family.
London Borough of Bexley - Childcare Sufficiency Assessment
This is the London Borough of Bexley's first Childcare Sufficiency
Assessment. It is the basis of an ongoing dialogue with parents and carers,
children and young people and providers on the range and quality of childcare
needed now and in the future. Please email any comments to the Family
Information Service and they will be passed to
the appropriate officers for response.

- Schools provide access to a varied menu of study support and
enrichment activities which provide fun and stimulating activities
for young people, as well as a safe place to be.
- Schools provide access to parenting support and family learning,
including information sessions for parents of pupils joining reception and
on transfer to secondary school; signposting to national and local sources
of information, advice and support; access to parenting groups using structured,
evidence-based parenting programmes; sessions to allow children to learn
with their parents.
- Swift and easy access: working closely with other statutory
services and the voluntary and community sector, schools ensure that children
with additional needs are identified as early as possible, and are well
supported through integrated working with other services.
- Schools ensure they provide community access to appropriate
facilities, such as ICT suites, sports and arts facilities, and also provide
access to adult learning.
