SEN Specialist Provision - Phase 2
Following the public consultation exercise in 2006, the Cabinet Member for
Children's Services made the decision in November 2007 to proceed with the
establishment of specialist places for children with a range of severe and/or
complex special educational needs at mainstream schools in the borough. These
will deliver in the first phase 82 new places in resourced provisions in 9
schools by September 2009. Resourced provisions are specially staffed and equipped
classroom bases for children with severe/complex SEN. With the support of expert
staff the children spend most or some of their time with their peers in mainstream
classes.
Phase Two would involve delivering a further 104 places by September 2010.
The total number of places would have tripled to 280 places by 2010, enabling
many more children to be educated in local schools rather than in out of Borough
provision. The Council now seek the views of all those likely to be affected
by these proposals in phase 2. The report on the details of the proposal
for each school can be found below. To express your views on the proposals,
you can fill out one of our online forms. We have an online
form for children and an online
form for all other interested parties.
