Achievement for All
Education is our Future
A consultation document on Bexley's review of
special educational needs provision
Bexley's review of its provision for pupils with
special educational needs began in 2002 when the Council considered proposals
for achieving wider inclusion, improving the planning and management of
resources and closer co-operation between all providers of support for
pupils with special educational needs. Council Members agreed that such
a fundamental review would require external support and that it would require
a substantial period in which to develop and agree proposals with schools.
The consultants Mouchel were engaged to support this work and, following
extensive consultation by them, a set of proposals was offered to the Council
for consideration in July 2003 and February 2004.
The Council is keen to progress these issues and to do so in close consultation
with the main "stakeholders" including education providers and
parents. Consequently, the proposals from Mouchel have been translated
into the set of principles and key ideas that are set out in a consultation
document "Achievement for All".
This is a first stage of consultation that is aimed primarily at those
involved professionally in supporting young people in their education.
A later stage of consultation will be aimed more directly at parents and
others with a close interest in the achievement of young people. However,
that is not to say that views of other interest groups will not be welcomed
on this first stage.
The consultation period ended on 31 July 2004. Bexley Council's Cabinet
Members will be considering the responses throughout August so that, in
September, further work can take place to move the project on. Any further
developments will be posted on this website.
