Information for Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT)
The London Borough of Bexley operates an NQT pool for primary
and secondary school appointments. If you are accepted into the pool, your details

What happens then?
- You will be invited to Bexley's NQT
Recruitment Fair where you will meet representatives from Bexley
schools and have an informal interview, as well as opportunities
to find out more about Housing, Childcare, Vacancies, visit schools,
gain information on support during your NQT Induction Year and details of education
in Bexley.
|
 |
- Your details will then be entered on the NQT database/
NQT pool that is available to Bexley schools on a secure intranet site.
|
 |
- Once a school has appointed you either yourself or the
school informs the School Workforce Development Team so that your details can
be taken off the database and we will then inform Schools HR and the NQT Induction Team.
|
Note:
Inclusion on the NQT Pool does not constitute an offer of employment. This
can only be done by Headteachers and Governing Bodies. You are, of course,
free to accept or decline any offer made to you by a school.
Bexley's NQT Programme
Bexley's NQT Induction Programme is specifically targeted at
the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) Standards for Qualified Teacher
Status (QTS) and the induction standards for NQTs. It comprehensively deals
with the key areas of planning, classroom management, effective teaching styles,
assessment and professionalism required for the successful completion of the
NQT Induction Year.
The programme is designed to complement regular mentoring in school with
an induction tutor, which focuses on the day to day needs and builds a sound
evidence base for judgements to be made at the end of the year. Our induction
trainers will expect NQTs to reflect on their training and practical experiences
in school in order to refine their own skills of self-evaluation. The programme
will enable NQT's to develop a portfolio of training evidence for the end of
the year assessment purposes.
Participants will:
- Receive training tailored to meet the requirements of the DCSF standards
for QTS and induction standards
- Receive support and training in their specialist teaching subject
- Develop a portfolio of training evidence and teaching experience to help
them to meet their Career Entry Profile targets and the DCSF Induction Standards
for full registration as a teacher
Induction of Newly Qualified Teachers
Working in any Bexley school you will find a high standard
of support and guidance during your first year of teaching and throughout your career. The LA provides
a programme of induction training for Newly Qualified Teachers, while individual
schools have their own mentor aimed at providing on-the-job advice and support
from an experienced colleague.
Outside school you will have access to the resources and expertise offered
by Bexley School Effectiveness Division whose team of advisors and advisory
teachers are available to provide advice and in-service training across the
curriculum.

Give your career a flying start
Your first year as a teacher is potentially the most important
in your career. Consequently we have developed a comprehensive 12 month induction
programme that aims to familiarise you with school and Borough policies, resources,
structures and services, and help you build long-lasting relationships with
pupils, parents, colleagues and governors.
We'll make your Career Entry Profile come true.
Schools have a statutory responsibility to consider your Career
Entry Profile (CEP), and to nominate a mentor to help you achieve your personal
and professional goals.
Your contact with your mentor will be both formal and informal: he or she
will be available to answer your questions, share in your successes and help
you over any difficulties.
Your mentor will work with you to monitor your performance and to arrange
any appropriate INSET or professional development to help you meet your goals.
Of course, you can also seek advice and guidance from curriculum leaders within
the school, or from the headteacher.
