Dog Fouling

Wouldn't it be great if dogs cleared up after themselves? But it's up to you! Please clean up after your dog.

Bexley Council actively encourages dog owners to act responsibly and clear up after their dogs. Those that leave their mess behind are liable to a £50 fixed penalty notice.

Please clean up after your dogWith over 200 dedicated dog waste bins throughout the Borough, there is no excuse to leave dog mess on the streets and in parks.

Bexley is taking the stress out of the doggies' mess!

Have you a problem with dog fouling in your area? The sooner we know about it the sooner we can respond.

Bexley Council has responded to mounting public concern and has developed an effective strategy to combat this issue.

Bexley Council encourages responsible dog ownership as part of the promotion of the health and welfare of its residents.

If you have witnessed an incident in your area you can contact us by completing the form, by telephoning 020 8303 7777 option 1, or by e-mailing [e-mail]worksdirect@bexley.gov.uk.

It is now illegal not to clear up the mess left by your dog. This applies to all parks and open spaces, all roads and pavements, including roadways and gutters, open spaces and highway verges. Enforcement officers inspect these areas regularly.

Dogs are also excluded from some areas of parks, mainly children's playgrounds.

A fixed penalty notice of £50 is issued to those in charge of the dog at the time.

Failure to pay within 14 days could result in £1,000 fine through prosecution in the Magistrates Court.

Under the "Scoop That Poop" scheme, 200 dog-waste bins are now sited throughout the Borough. Replacement street names now display the anti-dog fouling logo.

This action is helping to achieve the high standards of street cleanliness that residents of the Borough expect. However, action will only work in a joint effort undertaken by the entire community: the Council, dog-owners and pedestrians alike.
