Highway Obstruction

Everyone has the right to free and unobstructed access to the public highway although it is necessary to have street furniture such as lamp columns, railings and litterbins for the public's general protection and use, and for the statutory suppliers to undertake works to their equipment.

Other items such as building materials have to be placed on the highway on a temporary basis while works are being undertaken to a private house but nothing should be placed on the highway without the Council's permission.

Licences for scaffolds/hoardings, building materials and skips can be applied for. Use the links above or left for further information.

Often shops place advertisement boards and goods for sale outside their premises and the Enforcement Team ensure these are kept to the back edge of the footway adjacent to the property to ensure no obstruction is caused.

If you wish to report an unauthorised obstruction please use the contact details or complete required details in the online form below.

Report Form

Use your computer's mouse or the Tab key to move between fields. Do not use Enter in the single line entries or the form may be sent prematurely.
