Waste & Recycling Services
Waste and Recycling Arrangments for Flats
How does the scheme work?
Use your colour coded bags to store your recyclable waste in your house,
when they are full up take the bags down to your recycling point and transfer
to the larger bin. The bags are designed to be reused time and time again.
Once the bins are in place
- Please think of others and do not use the bins early in the morning or
late at night
- General household rubbish must be placed in your waste bin and not in
or near your recycling bins
- Contamination may result in the removal of your
recycling bins. We will regularly inspect the recycling bin area to ensure
there are no problems
What can you do
We try to be as proactive as possible with getting recycling into flats, however
firstly we aren’t always aware that some, particularly smaller blocks
even exist. Secondly if there is a private landlord or managing agent then
we do have to get permission from them first before putting the bins in. It
is sometimes very difficult to establish whom this person or company is, which
can hold the process up; so it is helpful if residents can inform us.
If there are no recycling facilities at your property then please
contact us on: 020 8303 7777 Option 1
What happens next?
A recycling warden will then visit your property and assess the following:
- Whom we need to get permission from to install the bins e.g. managing
agent / private landlord / residents association
- How much room is available for the bins
- The best location for the bins
- Suitable containers – this is dependent on how many properties are
within the block of flats and how much room is available
Once all this information has been gathered and the necessary permission granted
we will get the bins installed. We provide each resident with a Recycling
for Flats leaflet (190Kb, pdf file)
along with a set of three colour-corresponding reusable recycling bags, which
makes segregation of materials easier and gives you something to carry your
recyclables down to the communal bins with. |
