Mobile phones
Reuse and Recycling Centres: All mobile phones can be deposited
at both Reuse and Recycling Centres. These are sorted and distributed for reuse
in the Developing Countires. For your personal protection, please ensure all
personal information is deleted and the sim card is removed.
Printer cartridges
You can now purchase refill kits for your printer cartridges.
Reuse and Recycling Centres: All printer cartridges can be
deposited at either site. Most are then refilled and reused. Those that cannot
be refilled are recycled.
Books/CDs/Videos/DVDs/Cassettes
Books, cassettes and videos can be donated to charity shops.
If they’re scratched use CDs/DVDs as bird scarers.
CDs and DVDs can be traded in at some stores in the borough.
Reuse and Recycling Centres: All of these are accepted at
both sites. These are resold in charity shops to raise funds for worthy causes.
Home recorded videos, CDs, DVDs and cassettes along with pirated material
are not accepted.
Lightbulbs/fluorescent tubes
Use low energy light bulbs. They save energy as well as money on your bills.
They also last 8 times longer so you won’t need to keep changing them
and disposing of bulbs.
Reuse and Recycling Centres: We accept all lightbulbs and
fluorescent tubes. Mercury from fluorescent tubes is safely recovered and all
other materials are recycled.
Fridge freezers
Reuse and Recycling Centres: Both of our Reuse and Recycling
Centres can accept fridges and freezers. Ensure that these are empty of all
food and drink before placing upright, with the door slightly open, in the
designated area. Site staff will provide assistance if required. The harmful
CFCs from the insulation foam and coolant are safely recovered and the rest
of the material is recycled.
Special Collections: Bexley Council provide a special collection
and disposal service for bulky household items such as fridge freezers, furniture,
cookers, washing machines, etc. which are too large to be collected as part
of your weekly waste collection. Find out more details here.
Televisions/monitors
Reuse and Recycling Centres: Traditional TVs and monitors
are separately collected and safely recycled to prevent the release of harmful
phosphorus from the cathode ray tube. Modern LCD and plasma screens can be
recycled in the small electricals container as they do not contain cathode
ray tubes.
Special Collections: Bexley Council provide a special collection
and disposal service for bulky household items such as TVs, furniture,
cookers, washing machines, etc. which are too large to be collected as part
of your weekly waste collection. Find out more details here.
Car batteries
Reuse and Recycling Centres: Acids and heavy metals from
these batteries are safely recovered. Please note that this is for vehicle
batteries only and not for household batteries.
Household batteries
These can be accepted at selected large electrical retailers.
Small electricals
Reuse
and Recycling Centres: Plastic based electrical items,
such as hairdryers, irons, vacuum cleaners, stereos etc. are recycled
for their constituent elements. Please note this facility is NOT for TVs
and monitors, which should be placed in their own dedicated areas.
Large electricals

such as cookers, washing machines, microwaves etc. are recycled for their constituent
elements. Please note this facility is NOT for fridges, freezers, TVs and monitors,

Some white goods (cookers and washing machines mainly) can be disposed of
for reuse at our Reuse and Recycling Centres. Bexley Council are working in
partnership with Respond based in Thamesmead. Respond works with social services,
homeless groups, housing associations and refugee teams to meet the need for
good quality low cost furniture and electrical goods for those in need. The
Respond Furniture Centre allows people to select their own goods and to turn
a house into a home.
