Recycling at School
Schools Waste Action Club (SWAC)
SWAC is a Waste Watch initiative that provides advice on waste reduction, reuse and recycling in schools and helps children take practical action on waste. SWAC has developed a variety of fun, curriculum based activities for use in primary and secondary schools. All activities are provided free of charge and funding for the SWAC programme is provided by the London Borough of Bexley.

Talking rubbish helps schools to:
- Deliver the National Curriculum through a wide range of subjects
- Improve the environmental management of the school
- Save costs on materials and waste disposal
- Raise the profile of schools within the local community
- Develop links with industry
- Encourage social responsibility and "global citizenship" in
schools and the wider community
- The Schools Waste Action Club Education Officers support schools in organising
trips to recycling facilities, undertaking school waste audits, setting up
new recycling and composting facilities, running workshops for pupils and
INSET for teachers and promoting inter-school and community links.
If your school is interested in joining SWAC or would like more information,
please contact Melanie Stedmon on 020 8294 6090 or Cairis Hickey on 020 8294
