Real Rubbish Reduction
Over 15 million
disposable nappies are thrown away in Bexley every year which costs £130,000
to dispose of. Most disposables end up in a landfill site where they pollute
the environment and take many years to degrade. Reduce your rubbish by choosing
real nappies.
Real Health
Real nappies are mostly made from natural fabrics
and are therefore breathable and very comfortable to wear. Also unlike
many disposables, they do not contain super-absorbent chemicals.
Real Easy
to Use
Real nappies are made from soft breathable cotton and are used
with a biodegradable or flushable liner and a waterproof wrap to prevent leaks,
which work together to provide maximum comfort and reliability. They come
in lots of modern and funky styles and a variety of sizes as described below.
Flat Nappies and Pre-folds
These nappies need folding to fit your baby but
are cheap to buy and very quick to dry. They need a waterproof wrap to go
over the top.
Shaped Nappies
Shaped nappies are cut to fit your baby and are
fastened with velcro, poppers or a Nappi Nippa (the modern alternative
to pins). Shaped nappies are very easy to use; they don't require any folding
and offer good containment but may take longer to dry. There is also a one
size shaped nappy, which should fit your baby from birth to potty training.
All shaped nappies need a waterproof wrap to go over the top.
Stuffable/Pocket
Nappies
Stuffable nappies do not require a separate waterproof cover
and the absorbency can be adjusted to suit your baby. As the absorbent layer
can be removed, these nappies are quick to dry.
All In One Nappies
All in one nappies combine an absorbent shaped nappy with a waterproof outer
layer, so they are a one-piece system. They are easy to use but out of all
the nappies they take the longest time to dry.

Top Tips
When storing used nappies in a bucket to be washed, sprinkle over a few
drops of tea tree or lavender oil. It is antibacterial and also smells
nice!

If you live in a hard water area, put
a tablespoon of white vinegar in the rinse cycle, it softens the nappies
nicely.
