Crayford Town Centre Regeneration Projects: April 2007- April 2009
Crayford Town Centre is being transformed after the London Borough of Bexley
secured just under £2.2 million from the Communities and Local Government
Thames Gateway Sustainable Communities Fund.
The funding will enable the Crayford Waterside area to be modernised, creating
an attractive destination for residents and shoppers, as well as helping to improve
trade for local businesses. The work will include landscaping with water/play
facilities and we hope to provide a new cafe and a footbridge over the River
Cray.
Improvements have already been carried out throughout the town centre to improve
the quality of the environment, with new lighting and street furniture being
installed. The aim is to create a smarter feel and a stronger sense of identity
to the Town Centre.
We have received Planning Permission and Environment Agency consent for the redevelopment
of Waterside Gardens, and have started work there, by carrying out improvements
to the River Cray throughout the summer. This work included clearance of the
river bed and new reed beds planted. The adjacent river wall and steps have also
been repaired and renovated.
The designs for the redevelopment are currently being finalised and work to renew
the paving around the gardens is due to take place in September 2008. A copy
of the latest design for the area can be seen below.

Crayford Street Scene - Waterside and Maxim Road
The first stage of improvement works at Waterside and Maxim Road were carried out between January and March 2007.
At Waterside, old and unused planters were removed and new trees, lighting columns, benches, bins and bollards installed.
Maxim Road was cleared and replanted, opening up the River Cray, with new street furniture to match that at Waterside.
The improvement works were funded jointly by the London Borough of Bexley, the
Thames Gateway London Partnership Action for Excellence Programme and the Department
of Communities & Local Government.
