Grassroots Grants Bexley
Capital Community Foundation is delighted to announce Grassroots Grants Bexley,
a three year fund which, in partnership with BVSC, will be targeted at small
community organisations in the borough. Grassroots Grants aims to help build
thriving local communities, bring people from different backgrounds together
and empower them to achieve change in communities.

Funding for Youth Projects (England)
The Government has announced the allocation of funding made under the Youth
Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund. Both funds will be worth a total of £115
million over the two years to 2008. One of the key aims of both funds is to give
young people, especially young people in disadvantaged areas, a voice in how
the money will be spent. The money which will be ringfenced and allocated to
Local Authorities and will enable young people aged 13-19 to bid directly for
funds from their local council to improve facilities and activities in their
neighbourhood. The level of funding allocated for 2006-07 to any single Local
Authorities varies from £100,000 to £1,464,000.

£2 Million Cash Boost for Musical Instrument (England)
As part of the £30 million Music Standards Fund, the Government has announced that it will be ring fencing £2 million over two years to for Local Music Services to invest in the purchase and repair of musical instruments for their primary schools. This is the first time that money has been made available specifically for investment in instruments for pupils aged 7 to 11. The funding will be allocated directly to Local Music Services.

Awards for all Increases Maximum Grant (UK)
The Big Lottery Fund has announced that its maximum grant will increase from £5,000 to £10,000. At the same time the minimum grant that an applicant can apply for will be lowered from £500 to £300. Awards for All supports small scale community based projects that promote arts and education, encourage healthier living, develop local sports, support heritage initiatives and boost community activities. The total amount of funding available through the Awards for All programme in 2006 - 07 will be £60 million.

Big Lottery Fund Launches Playful Ideas Programme (England)
The Big Lottery Fund has announced the launch of its new 'Playful Ideas' programme. Under this programme £16 million will be available in England until the 31st March 2007, to fund projects with a creative and novel approach to play. The fund is now open to applications from registered charities; voluntary or community groups; charitable or not-for-profit companies; social enterprises; and town and parish councils can apply. However, other organisations, such as schools, can work in partnership on Playful Ideas projects. The level of funding available is between £10,000 and £250,000 per project.

Elder Abuse UK Grants Programme Opens for Applications (UK)
Comic Relief has announced that the Elder Abuse UK Grants programme is now open to applications. One of the key aims of the programme is to support a wide range of different approaches to tackling elder abuse and to build up a range of ideas and techniques that can be shared. The funding is open to constituted voluntary groups and registered charities. Comic Relief plans to make 12 - 15 larger grants (£10,000 - £40,000) as well as a larger number of grants to support smaller (up to £5,000) projects. The deadline for applications is the 31st July 2006.

Funding for Subject Specialist Networks (UK)
The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, in partnership with the Museums Association, has announced a second round of funding for Subject Specialist Networks of £400,000. The idea of these networks is to develop a knowledge brokering service for Museums with designated collections to share scholarship, collections and collections expertise, research and interpretation skills, with a view to improving the way audiences experience collections. Funding will be available in the form of both Exploratory and Implementation grants. Currently grants of up to £4,000 are available for exploratory grants.
The deadline for applications is 3rd July 2006. Applications for Implementation grants will be issued in autumn 2006.

Funding for Youth Volunteering Opportunities (England)
The Russell Commission which was established by the Government in 2004 with the aim of involving more young people (aged 16 -25) in volunteering has announced that the first round of funding for volunteering opportunities and Youth Volunteer Development Managers and Youth Volunteer Advisors is now open for applications. The funding is available to local and national voluntary and community sector organisations as well as commercial and public sector organisations working in partnership with voluntary and community based organisations. Funding is going to be made available through a number of different strands such as funding for "Full and Part Time Youth Volunteering Opportunities" as well as "Short Term Opportunities". There is no upper or lower funding levels and the application process varies according to the funding strand under which applications are made.

Funding to Boost Youth Cricket (England)
The Lord's Taverners have announced that they have received funding of £355,000 to help fund free cricket equipment bags for schools and clubs and grants towards the installation of Non-Turf Pitches. The funding is being made available by England & Wales Cricket Trust and the National Sports Foundation to meet the huge extra demand for their cricket bags and pitch grants following the massive surge of interest in the game since last summer's Ashes Series. It is anticipated that the cricket bags and pitch grants schemes will re-open in the near future.

Futurebuilders (England)
Voluntary and Community based organisations have between the 1st May 2006 and the 30th June 2006 to apply for funding under the latest bidding round of the Futurebuilders Fund. Futurebuilders is a £125M Home Office backed investment fund for developing the capacity of the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) to deliver public services. Futurebuilders England provides a combination of loan and grant finance together with support to help voluntary and community based organisations build their capacity and increase their effectiveness in the delivery of services and earn revenues through public sector contracts.

Partnership Fund (England)
The next deadline for schools wishing to apply for the Partnership Fund is the 31st July 2006. The Partnership Fund is designed to help schools which can demonstrate that, in spite of their determined efforts over time, they have not be been able to raise the sponsorship necessary to apply for specialist school status. In order to be eligible for Partnership Fund support schools will need to demonstrate that they have made concerted efforts to raise external sponsorship for at least a year; established links with local business and community groups relevant to the specialist project, even if these have not resulted in offers of eligible cash sponsorship; undertaken substantial fundraising activities in house; and made substantial efforts to raise awareness about its specialist plans.

The South East London Community Foundation is distributing grants

The Big Boost (England)
The Big Boost is an awards programme that supports young people who are keen to get involved in their communities. The awards which will run for two years from the 1st November 2005, will help young people set up and run projects that will make a lasting difference to them as well as to the communities they live in. A Big Boost Award is cash plus the support to help young people make their ideas a reality. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the programme awards grants of between £250-£5,000 to help individuals and small groups of people aged between 11-25, deliver projects in their local areas.
