On-Street Parking
Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs)
These
have been introduced to balance the requirements of local residents
with other road users wanting to park. Often the spaces within a
CPZ are reserved for residents, businesses and their visitors who
hold a valid parking permit.
In a CPZ only permit holders may use the parking spaces during
the controlled hours, which are shown on all entry roads to the
CPZ. It is essential to ensure the vehicle is contained wholly within
the road markings during the controlled hours.
If you are a resident within a CPZ, you can apply for a Resident's
Parking Permit.
If required, you can apply for a Business
Permit to park within a CPZ.
Limited Period Bays
In the busier areas of Bexley there is provision for time-limited
on-street parking where the length of stay is limited to anything
between one and four hours. Check the parking signs on the side
of the road. There are also areas where charges may apply. These
will be controlled either by Pay and Display machines or parking
meters.
Parking Meters
Vehicles
in parking meter bays must be parked wholly within the white lines.
Motorists should ensure that they are putting their money in the
correct meter and must purchase sufficient time to cover the duration
of their stay upon arrival. It is not permitted to return to a meter
to add more money (more commonly known as 'feeding the meter').
Suspended Meters
There are times when a parking meter bay needs to be suspended
from use. Motorists must not park in suspended bays as they are
suspended for good reasons such as roadworks, gas leaks and other
emergencies. Ignoring this restriction will certainly earn a PCN
(Penalty Charge Notice).
Out of Order Meters
Motorists are not permitted to park on electronic meters where
the display on the meter shows it is out of order (regardless as
to whether or not the display indicates that the meter was on penalty
at the time), otherwise a PCN may be issued. All parking
meters within the London Borough of Bexley are electronic. The
examples below show the typical electronic displays on meters within the London
Borough of Bexley. Both have been taken from the front of the meters, (where
the money is inserted). If the display on a meter looks similar to one of the
examples, DO NOT PARK IN THE METER BAY, (even if you hold a valid Disabled Persons
Blue Parking Badge). If you do, you are liable for a Penalty Charge Notice, (even
if you display a valid Disabled Persons Blue Parking Badge).

The Council will consider a challenge in circumstances where a
motorist believes a parking ticket has been issued as a result of
a faulty meter, and the out of order indicator
was not displayed at the time of purchase. (See
'What to do if you get a parking ticket')
Disabled Parking Spaces
Disabled
(blue) badge holders may park in one of over 200 spaces in Bexley,
which have been specially reserved for those displaying a disabled
person's parking permit. Blue badge holders can also benefit from
other concessions in Bexley: free parking without time limit in
any permitted parking place, paid for parking bay or Council car
park, and in limited period waiting areas or on any single or double
yellow line for up to three hours. Blue badge holders however must
not park on the footpath or where loading or stopping is not permitted.
