and initiatives. Volunteers can be of any age, background or ability all you
need is an interest in caring for your local environment. To find out more about

Focus Groups
There are nine separate focus groups who work with the Council to help improve local quality of life in Bexley. One such group, for the Natural Environment, includes Members from The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Bexley Civic Society, London and Kent Wildlife Trusts and representatives from other local conservation and resident's groups. They are committed to working with the Council to conserve and enhance Bexley's wildlife and to raise environmental awareness. Bexley in Bloom Competition
Bexley in Bloom is an annual competition that gives local people the chance to show off their gardening skills. It aims to make the Borough more attractive for residents and visitors, whilst at the same time raising awareness of the environment.
The Judging is carried out by Judges from The London Gardens Society and takes
place in early July. They award points for the condition of plants, design features
and layout, overall impact and most importantly, good use of colour. Each entrant
receives a copy of the results and judges comments in early August. The success
of the competition clearly demonstrates that local people want to be involved
in improving their environment, with the planting of trees, shrubs and flowers.

Wildlife Talks and Walks
Wildlife walks are undertaken through Parks and Open Spaces at various times throughout the year, subject to demand. Wildlife experts donate their time to lead the walks, pointing out matters of interest and giving a talk on their specific areas of expertise. Bats, birds and butterflies are amongst the subjects of the walks that take place. For further information contact Parks & Open Spaces on 020 8303 7777, Option 1 or e-mail worksdirect@bexley.gov.uk.
