About the Green Flag Awards

Green Flag logoGreen Flags Awards are national prestigious awards given for high standards in individual parks. The External Link Green Flag Award scheme has been developed by charities concerned with the environment and park management and is managed by the External Link Civic Trust. The award's primary aim is to raise the standard of public parks. Judging is based on:

  • Concern for the environment by using environmentally sensitive maintenance practices and by protecting and encouraging wildlife;
  • consultation with the community that uses the park, listening to users views about the development and management of the park;
  • the facilities provided in the park meet the needs and expectations of the parks users;
  • the landscape features are well designed and maintained. They take into account the needs of the park users and are sensitive to natural and historical features in and around the park; and
  • access to the park is available to all members of the community. It is a welcoming and safe place and it is clean and well maintained.

Bexley holds Green Flag Awards for Hall Place Gardens (in partnership with Bexley Heritage Trust), Lesnes Abbey, Danson Park, East Wickham Open Space and Foots Cray Meadows.
