Parks strategy key aims

Aim

  • To conserve and enhance the natural environment and ecological balance in parks

Objectives

  • Conserve and enhance the natural environment
  • Implement the Environment Strategy, including Local Agenda 21
  • Seek to increase and protect the diversity and quantity of flora and fauna
  • Implement the Tree and Woodlands Strategy
  • Contribute to the development of a Biodiversity Action Plan which includes the declaration and management of local nature reserves
  • Extend Countryside Management Schemes
  • Encourage and support voluntary conservation schemes
  • respond rapidly to environmental threats

Actions

  • Contribute to, support and implement Bexley's Biodiversity Action Plan
  • Ensure individual Park Management Plans incorporate proposals in line with Bexley's Local Biodiversity Action Plan
  • Endeavour to undertake an annual programme of tree-planting in parks and open spaces
  • Identify two potential local nature reserve sites in 1999
  • Submit new applications for Countryside Stewardship funds
  • Foster volunteer conservation programmes and projects
  • Review and, if required, strengthen environmental monitoring procedures
