Trees and Woodland Strategy

Bexley's strategic approach to tree management and new tree planting

Objectives

6.1

The Bexley Tree and Woodlands Strategy can only be successfully implemented through the co-ordinated actions of a wide range of organisations and with the support of the general public.

The strategy is intended to complement and reinforce other strategic documents including the Council's Unitary Development Plan and New Environmental Agenda.

6.1.1

The objectives of the Trees and Woodland Strategy are therefore to:

  1. Provide for and encourage the sustainable management of the existing trees and woodlands in the Borough, both privately and publicly owned.
  2. Manage the existing trees and woodlands through best technical practice for the multiple objectives of nature conservation, landscape, and environmental benefits - e.g. noise reduction, economics, recreation and education.
  3. Promote a greater interest, awareness and enjoyment of trees and woodlands by the public.
  4. Promote the economic and amenity value of trees and woodlands in the Borough.
  5. Provide or encourage the steady expansion of tree cover in the Borough.
  6. Protect trees and woodlands which provide amenity, landscape, nature conservation or historic value.
