Bexley's strategic approach to tree management and new tree planting

8.1 Prepare a landscape assessment of the Borough showing preferred areas for planting (Forest Authority - Landscape assessment for indicative forestry strategies).

8.2 Produce one woodland management plan per year and enter into a five-year agreement with the Forest Authority to undertake the proposed works.

8.3 Review the Council's own timber requirements and investigate sources of timer from sustainable managed sources.

8.4 Introduce a scheme for voluntary tree wardens in conjunction with the Tree Council and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.

8.5 Prepare an annual programme of events, guided walks, visits and talks.

8.6 Investigate a system to enable Tree Preservation Orders to be served immediately.

8.7 Undertake a review of all Tree Preservation Orders.

8.8 Create a computerised database and management system for all Council-owned street trees.

8.17 Produce a plan for increased inter-departmental communications, so that problems and current issues concerning trees and woodlands can be easily discussed.

8.18 Devise a series of sustainability indicators for Bexley's Urban Forest (in accordance with the New Environmental Agenda).
