Shopping Centre Boundaries

In its UDP the Council identified 9 town and 52 neighbourhood shopping centres where it tries to maintain a healthy and varied range of shops, frequently restraining the conversion of shops to alternative uses. These tables indicate the ground floor premises surveyed whenever the current mix of uses is examined.

The Council maintains lists of shops that are considered:

When calculating the mix of uses in each centre account is taken of the varying width of frontages, but unauthorised uses are disregarded. This ensures that the interests of those seeking consent for a Change of Use are not harmed by reason of those making significant changes without seeking planning permission. Any instances of unauthorised uses may be reported to and investigated by the Enforcement Team in the Development & Public Protection Services Department.
