Bexleyheath Civic Offices Planning Brief
(Draft for Consultation)
This consultation has now closed and these pages
are provided for information only.
Bexley Council is committed to continue the development of Bexleyheath as one of the best centres of its scale in the country and as the successful commercial, leisure and civic centre of the borough. However, the prefabricated 1970s Civic Offices have exceeded their life expectancy, are increasingly expensive to maintain and have no architectural merit. Redevelopment would provide a unique opportunity for the Council and its partners to introduce new uses and to create an attractive, modern scheme that makes better use of the site and meets the needs of a successful modern Council.
The Council's aim is to reduce the amount it spends on its office and civic accommodation, which will help to limit future Council Tax increases. The Council wishes to consolidate as much as possible of its accommodation requirements on the Civic Offices site, disposing of surplus sites to help fund the new development. New accommodation will also help the Council provide an improved service to residents and better value for money.
The Council has prepared a draft Planning Brief for the Civic Offices site to guide prospective partners on acceptable uses and design expectations. The Planning Brief, together with a Sustainability Appraisal Report and other associated documents, is available here:
