Food
Safety
Our aim is to ensure that food is safe to eat, as well
as correctly labelled and advertised, by regularly inspecting
food and food premises. To do this we have a team of Food
Safety Officers who are responsible for the regular and
unannounced inspection of all food premises within the
borough.
Where legal requirements are not being met, action is
taken to secure any improvements necessary to comply with
legal duties. In addition officers give advice and guidance
on good practice and provide regular food hygiene training
courses for food handlers.
The
Food Safety Team is in turn subject to inspection by the
Food Standards Agency (FSA) to ensure that is fulfilling
its duties.
Bexley was last subject to detailed audit in December
2001. The Food Standards Agency report can be viewed on
the FSA
web-site (PDF format).

‘Scores on the Doors’ - A New Scheme for 2007 (Clean
Food Awards)
Bexley’s current Clean Food award scheme has been suspended, pending
the introduction of a London wide scheme 'Scores on the Doors' which is due
to be introduced later in 2007. In the meantime whilst we are no longer issuing
new certificates, businesses may continue to display their existing awards.
