What Tradesman?

Customer Feedback Scheme

London Borough of Bexley's 'What Tradesman?' scheme is run by the Trading Standards and Building Control teams and aims to help take the headache out of picking a reliable tradesman. Customers of those businesses who are registered with the scheme provide comment on the overall quality and service offered and these comments are recorded for other potential customers to see. In this way a customer satisfaction profile is built up for each participating business. All personal details are confidential.

If you are a customer: you can check to see the customer rating of a registered business or a list of businesses here External Link - www.traderregister.org.uk'Find a Trader'. Simply enter the postcode where the work is to be carried out and then select how many traders you are interested in and the type of work to be carried out. You will then be given a list of the traders requested. Their feedback can be seen by clicking on the icon at the end of each trader entry.

You can also leave feedback about a registered business you have employed here External Link - www.traderregister.org.uk'Leave Feedback' and filling in your details (These are necessary to allow us to ensure the feedback is genuine). You will be shown a list of traders, highlight the one who carried out your work and then click on the document icon. You will then be able to rate your experience.

If you are in a dispute with the trader that you cannot resolve you can also make a complaint here External Link - www.traderregister.org.uk'Make a Complaint'. Arbitration is also available in certain cases and providing all parties agree.

If you are a business: who carries out work in the London Borough of Bexley and would like to join the scheme you can do this here 'New Trader Registration' and fill in your details. You will then be contacted by an officer from the Trading Standards service to ensure that your business meets the terms and conditions of the scheme. Once accepted you will be supplied with as many feedback forms as required to hand out to your customers (More are available on request).

The scheme is free. There are however some additional benefits which you can choose to purchase. These include the right to use the official logo on your paperwork and the purchase of transfers for your vehicles and showrooms. More details are available by contacting Trading Standards on the number shown.

As from 1/10/08 customers have additional rights to cancel most types of contract conducted away from a trader’s place of business within 7 days. Customers must be given a notice of these rights in the prescribed format. A copy of these rights and a cancellation form is available here.
