Being Married or Registering a Civil Partnership in an Approved Premises
Since 1995, civil marriages are allowed to take place in buildings other than the Register Office which have been licenced as suitable venues by the local authority and recent changes in the law now allow for civil partnerships to be registered at these venues. To arrange a marriage or civil partnership registration at one of these venues you should first contact the proprietor to book your date and make provisional arrangements, and then contact the Register Office to ensure that a registration team will be available to attend your ceremony. You will also have to give notice in the district where each of you resides.
Please note that the venue will charge you a fee for the hire of their rooms - this is in addition to the fees for the attendance of the registration team. Your ceremony cannot be conducted without registration staff in attendance and the content of your ceremony must be entirely secular, as with a Register Office ceremony. Please telephone us on 020 8308 7515 for information regarding the current fees payable for the attendance of a registration team at your ceremony.
