Bexley Schools Forum
What is the Schools Forum?
Schools forums were set up by the government to give schools greater involvement in the
distribution of funding for education in the local authority. Forums have a consultative and advisory role
on key aspects of strategy and budget while having regard to wider education issues.
Education makes up nearly half of Bexley's gross expenditure and the forum works closely with the Council to
allocate some of these funds to our schools and consult on any proposed changes to school funding or other matters
related to the Schools Budget.

Bexley Schools Forum came into being in January 2003 soon after
the government introduced the legislation that made them a
statutory body. The forum includes members representing
primary, secondary and special schools, and governors as well as Head Teachers
are eligible for election.
Through lively and interesting debate the forum has come
together to form a unified local voice, addressing key financial
issues bringing about a cultural change and destroying the 'them and
us' myth. Forum members that had previously lobbied the Council
individually, to increase budgets or have more say on Council
spend, now work together. This gives a greater understanding of
other members' difficulties or restrictions.
