Ready
For School
for parents whose children are preparing for school
Introduction
-
The aim of this guide is to support partnership between Bexley
parents and schools so that children make good progress throughout
their early years and settle into school happily.
-
Everywhere here where the word parents is used, it is intended
to include those carers who are acting as parents.
-
Parents are their children's first educators and play a vital
continuing role when their children join a school. There is
no one right way to bring up a child and everyone has their
own perspective. This guide suggests ways in which parents can
support progress before and after their children start at school.
Of course, many of the suggestions will be commonplace to many
parents.
-
Schools work in partnership with parents, to ensure that children
are happy and secure and go on learning. Teachers will listen
to parents' views and hopes for their children. They assess
what each child can do on entry to school and identify the next
learning needs. Teachers value and build on children's successes
and keep parents informed about their children's learning.
-
Pictures within the Ready for School booklet were drawn by
nursery and infant aged pupils in Bexley schools.
