You know your child best. If you have any concern or doubt about your child's development before school, have confidence in your judgement and talk to your doctor or health visitor. It is much better to raise such issues early. If you delay, you may pass your anxiety on to your child. Regular help and advice may be arranged. Sometimes special provision in a nursery class is appropriate.

Once in school, the class teacher or senior staff can discuss needs with you. Bexley has a carefully worked out scheme for identifying, assessing and meeting children's special educational needs. Varied professional advice is available on a range of needs, including behaviour and language development. Children's needs can usually be supported in the classroom.
