Social and Community Services
CSCI Star Rating

Bexley is one of the top two social services authorities in the country.
The annual council star ratings for Social Services Departments published
by the newly formed Commission
for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) on 18 November
2004, showed that of 150 local councils, Bexley maintained its three star level
for the third successive year. The Government, therefore, continued to find that
Bexley's Social Services was serving all adults and children well and the
capacity for sustained improvement was excellent. Underpinning this impressive
track record was the Government's recognition of Bexley's successes
in using Health Act flexibilities and local strategic partnerships to modernise
social services, including establishing one of the county's first Care
Trusts (for older people and people with disabilities) and integrating services
for children and young people through a pathfinder Children's Trust.
Bexley was now among the 20 leading councils to achieve the highest three
star level. Moreover, Bexley became one of only two local authorities
in the country to attain the optimum performance of excellence across all its
service during 2003/04. This outstanding achievement, as shown in the
CSCI Performance Matrix below, which assesses if a Council is serving people
well alongside it's capacity to improve, meant that Bexley and Westminster share
this top-level position in the country.

Bexley's retention of the very best Star-rating in the country was
