Football

 

Quality graded adult, junior and mini football pitches are available at ten venues across the borough from September to April. Floodlit 5-A-Side pitches can be found at Mayplace Playing Fields, Crayford and Town Park, Bexleyheath. Block bookings and single games are available.

Rugby

Rugby pitches are available at Northumberland Heath Recreation Ground, Erith and at St. Mary’s Recreation Ground in Bexley.

Cricket

 

Seven cricket wickets are available at Hall Place, Bexley and one at Waring Park in Sidcup. There is also an artificial wicket at Mayplace Playing Fields in Crayford.

Bowls facilities are available at five sites across the borough while croquet is played at Manor House in Crayford.

Specialist Sports Sites

Mayplace Playing Fields

 

Perry Street, Crayford.

Available 9am to 10pm daily, onsite facilities include an all weather Astroturf pitch for hockey and 5-a-side football, an artificial cricket wicket and 3 football pitches. On site parking, changing rooms and refreshment facilities make this an ideal multi-purpose leisure venue.

Penhill Park

A floodlit multi-surface pitch suitable for netball or 5-a-side football is available throughout the year.

Danson Park Watersports Centre

Danson Park Watersports

The Watersports Centre provides the opportunity to take part in sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and power boating.

Courses, taster sessions, birthday parties and one-to-one tuition are available, plus youth and school group bookings can also be taken. Equipment can be hired from the centre and there is an extensive youth programme for anyone aged 8 to 16 as well.

Splash Parks

Danson Splash Park, Playground and Kiosk

Situated in Bexley’s premier Green Flag park, this free wet and dry play area will provide hours of entertainment. There is secure perimeter fencing around the site and included within the boundary are a refreshment kiosk and seating area, toilets and baby changing facilities. Hours of operation for Danson Splashpark are:

Summer: 10am – 6pm

Winter: 10am – 2pm (weekdays), 10am – 4pm (weekends)

Belvedere Splash Park

Danson Park Watersports

Woolwich Road , Upper Belvedere

This wet play park is one of the largest in the country and entry is free! Children under 12 can enjoy paddling in the lagoon or cooling off under the water sprinklers, showers and bubble jets.

The water is continually monitored by a state of the art computer system to ensure a safe environment and fully trained staff manage the site. A kiosk is available for purchasing refreshments and there is ample space for family picnics.

The site is open from May to September between 11am – 6pm and changing facilities are available.

PiratesSplash Parks Events!

The Outdoor Recreation Team are planning 4 weeks of fun filled events for the kids at both Danson and Belvedere Splash Parks, including face painting, egg hunts, pirate themed days, free tennis coaching, children’s entertainers and much, much more.

Come and meet your local emergency services teams amongst other visitors. Including at Danson only- Police Cadets and Police Transport Team, and depending on weather, a ‘police-versus-kids’ 5-a’side match!

Circus Skills Entertainment
Have a go at juggling, plate spinning and Diablo, plus free coaching with our Tennis Coach 2-4pm at the Tennis Courts.

Tuesday 19 August

Environmental Day
Designed to promote energy saving awareness and efficiency, recycling and the environment in a fun and dynamic way! Renzo the Toy Maker will be attending and showing the kids how to make toys out of recycled materials.

Tuesday 26 August

Colour Dome
This multi-sensory experience will provide stimulation to sight and sound as you wander through the ever changing tunnels. The dome will be sited at the picnic area opposite The Stables Restaurant.

Including at Belvedere only - Bexley’s Library Service who will be promoting their Reading Challenge and Bookstart Programme, plus a crafts stall.

The Strategy will provide a framework for the future planning and management of open space and sports and recreation facilities in the Borough. Comments are invited by 28 July 2008.
