Bexley Leisure & Sports Services co-ordinate a variety of
services to support and develop sports and physical education
in schools.
School Sports Co-ordinators
The School Sport Co-ordinator programme was launched in September 2000 with
an initial 600 School Sport Co-ordinators (SSCos) being funded through Sport England's
Lottery Fund. SSCos are now an integral part of every Local Authority and school's
PE and school sport strategy.

These Sport England accreditation schemes recognise and award schools
for their commitment to promoting the benefits of physical
activity and offering good quality physical activity provision.

The TOPS programmes are a series of 'Youth Sport Trust' linked schemes
designed to offer all young people the opportunity to participate and progress

Development of Facilities
Five of the borough's schools are set to receive a real sporting bonus
in 2005 with massive development in both indoor and outdoor facilities.
Money has been awarded through the 'New Opportunities for PE and Sport'
(NOPES) programme, which looks primarily to the development of school
sports facilities to raise participation and partnership working, both
within schools and in the local community.
