Recreational Walks
Walking the way to health
Fitter people have a greater chance of living longer. Today's lifestyles discourage
many from being active, at least seven in ten people do not take enough exercise
to benefit their health. Some doctors call this the 'silent epidemic'.
Walking is almost perfect exercise; requiring no equipment or expense, it is
the best way for people from all walks of life to become more active.
It is important that adults get 30 minutes of activity per day on at least
5 days of the week. Moderate activity will be different for everyone but should
make you feel warm and mildly out of breath. Walking at any pace can help prevent
diabetes, increase 'good' cholesterol, benefit the immune system, improve mood
and reduce the chance of depression.
If you have previously been inactive and 30 minutes sounds a lot, you can start
off by doing separate sessions of ten minutes or so to count towards the total.
All of these walks are weekly and no booking is required, but if you have
any questions please contact Lynda Stevens.
