Work starts on the second stage of the River Cray Bridge extension
|
|
The first part of the new extension to the bridge was completed in May 2006.
This is where the new footpath will run with the stats underneath. Since then
the stats have gradually been diverted into this new bridge from the old metal
bridge which used to carry them over the river. The diversion work was finished
in November which meant that the old metal bridge could be dismantled and removed.
Work has now started on the middle section of bridge in order to join the old and the new parts together and mean that the bridge is wide enough for the dual carriageway that will be going over it. Sheet piles have been laid as the first part of the construction process. Steel beams will span the river on top of reinforced concrete walls on each bank. Reinforced concrete will be laid on top of the beams to create the new roadway which will then be brought up to the final road level with blacktop.

Revised Plans For The A206 Thames Road Improvement Scheme |
A new schedule of work has been put together for the A206 Thames Road project. The new timetable will see improvements to the A206 Thames Road continue as planned and largely completed by Summer 2007.
Network Rail, which owns the bridge that carries trains over the eastern end of Thames Road, has been unable to agree a suitable bridge design with the Council's consultants, so this feature is no longer part of the Council's immediate plans. While 1.5km of Thames Road will be widened to two lanes, traffic will continue to flow under the bridge in a single lane until the new railway bridge is built.
The full press release can be found here. The revised layout is shown here.

Mowlem becomes Carillion |
What has happened to the familiar Mowlem logo? Since 23rd February 2006, Mowlem has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Carillion plc. Mowlem are now pleased to present themselves as Carillion Regional Civil Engineering. The site team has not changed as a result of this - the same names and faces still apply! Jarod Williams has recently moved on to pastures new however and the new Project Manager is Mike Magee who is now leading the Carillion team here on site.

new facility was built by contractor Mowlem to replace the old play space which
was effected by the A206 Thames Road widening scheme. At the opening event, the
keys were handed over to Whitworth Housing by Mowlem.
Approximately 20 children came along to join Mowlem mascot Mole 'M' to shoot
a few hoops. There is also a new skateboarding ramp in the play space which the
children enjoyed using. Mole 'M' gave out some sweets and balls to the children.

|
|
An informal opening evening was held at Mowlem's site offices in Wyatt Road
on 8 December 2005. Local residents and businesses had the chance to drop in
