Sidcup Gears Up for Christmas
Bexley Council, Sidcup Town Partnership, and the Sidcup High Street Traders
Group got together to organise a day of festive entertainment to help remind
local shoppers what the high street has to offer for Christmas.
The Kent Food Fayre, the Bexleyheath monthly farmers market, visited Sidcup
for the first time, bringing cheeses, breads and pastries, fudge and Christmas
Hampers. They set up alongside the Arts Council of Bexley craft stalls at Main
Road. Magadena Marsden brought a very eye catching display of home made chocolates,
and Iris Griffin displayed home made Christmas Cards.

Rose Bruford College derived Student event company ‘Bohemian events’ lead
by Aniela Zaba supported the day with a humorous take on the Christmas Tradition.
The 8 feet tall Santa a.k.a. Neil Connolly walked the high street end to end,
popping into the shops to say ho ho ho! Along with the funny magician Andy Prince,
and the balloon modeling elf Roya Amiri. They were a big hit for the children – and
a few adults too!

The day also included a five hour entertainment programme, with Merton Court
School putting on a 25 strong choir and dance troupe outside the Portrait at
Main Road. The Jury Jazz Band entertained the whole high street with a roving
programme of Festive tunes, and the Salvation Army sang carols and fundraised
by Nesbitt Walk.
Councillor John Waters,
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said “This event really brought
the local community together in festive spirit and in support of our important
local organisations. I’m delighted that it continued the success of the
markets held in the summer. It should act as a first step toward a very successful
Christmas for the residents, businesses and visitors of Sidcup.”
