Pub Safe Bexley Borough
Making Bexley's Pubs Safer
A new group hopes it can help Bexley's pub-goers enjoy the borough's
public houses in safety.
Pub Safe is an organisation made up of local licensees - who want to encourage
and promote a sensible drinking environment in all Bexley's licensed premises.
It has now joined forces with Town Safe Bexley Borough, a Council-backed partnership
which aims to reduce crime and the fear of crime and make Bexley a safer place
to work, shop and socialise. This is achieved by making information, intelligence
and photographs available to members on a confidential basis.
Pub Safe has evolved from the old Pub Watch organisation. Its new chairman,
Sue Hashim, of the OHM venue in Bexleyheath, says: "We now have an elected
committee and a formal constitution thanks to Town Safe. We have always been
able to bar anyone who acts in a manner unacceptable to licensees, their staff
or customers. Now when troublemakers are barred the ban will apply to all our
members' premises. If the problem continues we will issue exclusion notices
and if necessary work to obtain an ASBO against the offender."
Cllr Mike Slaughter, Chairman of Bexley's Licensing Committee, says: "I
welcome this addition to the Council's measures to make Bexley a safer and
more pleasant place."
Town Safe manager, John Whatling, welcomed Pub Safe as a partner. He says: "Pub
Safe can now make use of Town Safe's new National Business Information System
which was launched recently."
Membership of Pub Safe is open to all licensed premises in the Borough. For
further information please contact John Whatling on 020 8304 0775.
