Current Utility Works

Thames Water Utilities and Southern Gas Networks have advised Bexley Council that they have started work on an extensive programme of mains replacement works across the borough.

Thames Water is replacing Victorian cast iron water mains as part of an accelerated programme to replace more than 1,100 miles of water mains in London by 2010. The new flexible plastic pipes will be more durable and flexible, and should reduce the number of bursts and leaks.

Southern Gas Networks' works are the result of a Direction from the Gas Regulator that the entire gas networks must be replaced over the next 30 years.

Although the Council is not responsible for the works, it will make every effort to minimise delays and disruption by co-ordinating activities and recommending preferred traffic management arrangements. Given the sheer scale of the works planned, some delays and disruption are unfortunately inevitable.
