Bexley Youth Service
Projects
A range of projects are available through the youth centres. They are short
term specific activities ranging from DJing, dance, and arts to fundraising for
events such as Jeans for Genes Day.
Sidcup Motorbike Project
Telephone 020 8836 8235, or email youth@bexley.gov.uk if
you are interested in or would like further details about the Motorbike Project.
The Youth Service is the lead agency in this project and they work with The
Archway Project to deliver this provision for 11-19 year olds. The project enables
young people to not only experience off road riding in a safe environment, but
also learn some of the skills needed in order to maintain a motobike.
The project is run from Sidcup Youth Centre,
on a Friday or Saturday, as a certificated ten-week course for any young person
who lives in Bexley Borough. Eight of the three hour long sessions are spent
in the workshop and two are spent off-site, in either Essex or Kent, riding the
bikes. No prior experience required.
Planet Earth
Telephone 020 8855 4046, or email youth@bexley.gov.uk if
you are interested in or would like further details about Planet Earth.
There are various dates for sessions of Planet Earth at Welling Youth Centre,
which is for young people (13-19 years old) who are interested in playing keyboards,
guitars or drums, helping with recording, amplifying and concert production,
including artwork and stage designs.
Ball Court League
There are a number football leagues running across the borough
in the new parks facilities, such as Ocean Park West Street and Northumberland
Heath Recreation Ground. These are run in partnership with Charlton Athletic
Football Club, Bexley's Community Safety Partnership, the Police, and Connexions.
If you would like to find out more, contact Tony Ball at Welling Youth Club,
Lovel Avenue, Welling, Kent DA16 3JQ, telephone 020 8855 4046.
Funding for Youth Projects
Nothing to do? Then get involved! As a young person, you
have the power to say what you want in Bexley. London Borough of Bexley's Youth Service
team look after the funding but it will be up to young people in the borough
to decide where the money will go.
The Youth Council want to hear from young people aged between 13-19 who are
involved in a project or club and need money for activities, a new project, equipment
or to expand.
Members of Bexley's Youth Council will help decide where money from
the fund should go. This means that the project should help children -
- Be Healthy
- Stay Safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being
Tips for a good bid
When applying three key things should happen
- young people should be involved at every stage
- projects should promote active involvement in the community
- the 5 Every Child Matters outcomes identified above must be addressed, i.e.
be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution,
and achieve economic well being

Funding sources
Projects for young people in Bexley can benefit from money from the Government's
Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF) and the Youth Capital Fund (YCF). Applications can
be made for both YOF/YCF.
YOF is for events, activities and projects; while YCF is for buildings
and equipment.
You can use the same form for both. Find out more about the funding programmes
at the Every
Child Matters website.
Have your say
Would you like to Get Involved and be one of the
young people who decides which projects should be funded? Then contact the Youth
Council, your local Youth centre or Bexley
Youth Service and
tell us your details. Alternatively you can complete our
online form.
We encourage each youth club to have a youth forum. Join the youth forum in your
youth club or set one up!
We are keen to encourage young people who do not normally get involved to
have a say. Maybe you are looked after, in care or struggling with school or
housing. We need YOU to get involved!
