Walks in and around Bexley
The Green Chain Walk.
The Green Chain is a string of over 300 public and private open
spaces stretching across south-east London. The 40 mile walk links
them together and is ideal for leisurely strolls or longer rambles.
The walk starts on the Thamesside Walk (riverside promenade) at
Thamesmead or Erith (Corinthian Manorway) and continues through
Bexley for almost six miles, via Lesnes
Abbey Woods, Bostall Heath and Woods, East Wickham Open Space
and Oxleas Wood. The walk is described in detail in ten leaflets.
Leaflets 1-3 cover those parts of the Walk which pass through Bexley.
For further information the Green Chain Walk, look at our
Green Chain Walk page, contact local
Tourist Information Centres or visit the Green
Chain Walk Web-site.
Public footpaths in other parts of the borough provide
a variety of walks in attractive surroundings. Particularly recommended
are paths through Joydens Wood and the Shuttle and Cray riverside
walks which pass through the picturesque Cray Valley and the Crayford
Marshes by the Thames.
Healthy Walks
Walking is known to be good for general health and even a few gentle walks
a week can really help improve fitness and wellbeing. The Primary Care Trust
have organised a number of public walks in some of Bexley's Parks and Open Spaces,
these are free to join and open to all. Find
out more here.

Cray Meadows it follows the river through North Cray to Hall

the Shuttle. From Hall Place, the Cray Riverway can be followed
north to Crayford Marshes and the Thames. Follow the link below
for a detailed guide to the Cray Riverway. A leaflet is also available
