A magnificent town and its flying machines
In 2009, Bexley Local Studies and Archive Centre were awarded £50,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to fund A Magnificent Town and Its Flying Machines: Crayford's industrial heritage and role in the early aviation history project.
Crayford: A Magnificent Town and its Flying Machines document (ZIP)* tells the story of the town's role in early aviation history and Crayford's industrial heritage which included the huge armaments firm of Vickers. Over the course of this project, a wide range of activities was held and education resources developed to tell the little known story of how one small town made such a big impact on the world of aviation and industry. Crayford History was also created as part of this project where a variety of resources can be found.
