Erith Yacht Club
The history of Erith Yacht Club can be told thanks to a £32,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund awarded to Bexley Local Studies and Archive Centre in 2011.
The grant paid for the conservation and cataloguing of the Club's archives and to develop a range of activities and resources, that for the first time made the little known history of Erith's oldest surviving sporting clubs accessible to a wider audience.
Erith Yacht Club's historic archives have been conserved so that future generations can enjoy these records that not only document the history of the Club but also reveal the history of Erith and its people. The archives include minute books dating from 1900, scrapbooks of early 20th Century photographs and racing programmes and correspondence recording the activities of the Club.
The archives are now catalogued and can be viewed at the Bexley Local Studies and Archive and one of the albums from the archive has been digitised.
Dating from 1900 to 1904 it contains newspaper cuttings, photographs, postcards and other souvenirs, including menus and invitations, relating to the establishment of the Erith Yacht Club.
