BexleyWalks app: new Armistice commemorative walk
A new guided walk to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice in 1918 has been added to the BexleyWalks app.
The short downhill walk takes you past some of the roads and buildings that our forebears would have known from the Manor House Memorial down into Crayford – an important town in Britain’s Great War history. It will give you some background history to the WWI memorial within St. Paulinus Church and some of the names mentioned there.
BexleyWalks is designed to help you find out more about some of Bexley’s hidden treasures. It provides guided tours that include maps and interesting facts and images that appear when you arrive at different stop points on the routes.
The app also has four other routes to enjoy - Bexley Village’, ‘Bygone Bexleyheath’, ‘Erith Riverside’ and ‘A War Memorial walk: Bexleyheath to Welling’ - each taking around an hour to finish.
The app has been developed by the borough’s Local Studies and Archive Centre’s team and they have big plans to increase the number of walks to offer a range right across the borough.
See the app in action when Cabinet Member for Places, Cllr Peter Craske spent one of the hottest days of the year putting the app to the test.
